Amazon Recommends Products Based on Your and Your Friends’ Facebook Interests

Amazon launched a new integration with Facebook today allowing users who link their accounts to receive purchase suggestions based on their Facebook interests, see gift recommendations for friends with upcoming birthdays, and browse items popular among your social network.

The integration pulls data about movie, music, and book preferences from you and your friends’ profiles and uses Amazon’s recommendation to suggest similar products. Curiously, there are not currently any additional sharing elements to communicate the social shopping experience back to Facebook.

Top IT firms log on to social networking sites to hire middle & senior-level staff

BANGALORE: Nearly half of new middle- and senior-level staff at top tech firms — including Accenture, Cognizant, Mindtree, HP-Mphasis and Wipro — are going to be hired from social networking sites such as LinkedIn, company officials and experts tracking the sector said.

Tech firms are now realising that middle-to senior-level managers and leaders are best hunted from platforms such as LinkedIn, where professionals are not necessarily disgruntled job seekers.

For instance, Accenture, the world’s second-biggest technology consulting firm, plans to hire nearly 40% of its new staff over the next few years through social networking sites such as LinkedIn. And the consulting major is not the only tech employer riding this trend. In fact, software maker Oracle famously found its CFO Jeff Epstein through LinkedIn way back in 2008.

By the numbers: Do we have Facebook fatigue?

That's one possibility suggested by monthly growth data from Inside Facebook, which reports that Facebook gained only 320,000 new U.S. users in June after a blockbuster gain in May of more than 7.8 million.

Moreover, the net's dominant social networking site lost active users in the 18-25, 26-34 and 35-44 demographic ranges, while gaining users in their mid-teens and middle years.

One possibility is that the May and June controversies over Facebook's privacy policies and dominance have kept the company from tremendous new growth and even led some to curtail their use.
